Erosion Thickness on Medial Axes of 3D Shapes

چکیده

We first make a note on the use of infimum instead of minimum in Equation 4 of the paper. This is because BT may only exist in the limit. An example is shown in Figure 1, where M is made up of a horizontal sheet and a vertical, cylindrical sheet close to the horizontal sheet’s boundary. The two sheets meet at a non-manifold seam with a circular shape (dotted curve). The shortest exposing tree at a point x located behind the cylinder would be a single path γ to the boundary that lies infinitely close to a portion of the seam (red). Note that γ cannot exactly lie on the seam, or otherwise it would need to spawn paths onto the cylinder (as required by an exposing tree), whose lengths would be much longer. The infimum allows us to capture the length of γ as if it follows the seam.

PDE-Based Medial Axis Extraction and Shape Manipulation of Arbitrary Meshes

Shape skeletonization (i.e., medial axis extraction) is powerful in many visual computing applications, such as pattern recognition, object segmentation, registration, and animation. In this paper, we expand the use of diffusion equations combined with distance field information to approximate medial axes of arbitrary 3D solids represented by polygonal meshes based on their differential propert...

Measurement, Evaluation and Analysis of Wall Thickness of 3D Airway Trees across Bifurcations

Airway segmentation and analysis is an essential step in the understanding of pulmonary anatomy and early detection of lung diseases. In this paper, we evaluate a newly developed method for segmenting the inner and outer surfaces of the airway tree. This is the first approach reported to validate the segmentation of the double wall surfaces for the entire airway tree including bifurcations. Two...

Extended grassfire transform on medial axes of 2D shapes

The medial axis is an important shape descriptor first introduced by Blum [2] via a grassfire burning analogy. However, the medial axes are sensitive to boundary perturbations, which calls for global shape measures to identify meaningful parts of a medial axis. On the other hand, a more compact shape representation than the medial axis, such as a “center point”, is needed in various application...

Dynamic Medial Axes of Planar Shapes

In this paper a computational model called dynamic medial axis (DMA) is proposed to describe the internal evolution of planar shapes. To define the DMA, a symbolic representation called matching list is proposed to depict the topological structure of the medial axis. As shown in this paper with provable properties, the DMA exhibits an interesting dynamic skeleton structure for planar shapes. Fi...
